Zala Park, also known as the Zanzibar Land Animal Park, is a small reserve located in the Muungoni hamlet, 5 kilometres from Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and 40 kilometres from the city of Zanzibar. The game reserve was established as an initiative to help Tanzanian locals appreciate wildlife. During your tour of Zanzibar, one of the places you will visit is Zala Park, where you will be able to view various reptiles and hold some of them in your hands, such as chameleons, striped lizards, dik-diks, tortoises, big pythons, geckos, crabs, monitor lizards, and hyraxes, and view various trees and vegetation, among others, giving you the chance to enjoy.
This is a refuge for sea turtles that prevents them from being hunted. It was established in 1993 and is situated at the northern edge of Zanzibar Island in the settlement of Nungwi, near the lighthouse. The pond was constructed to rehabilitate and research marine turtles trapped in fishermen's nets by mistake and young turtles that hatch from eggs found on the shore. Mtoni Palace is the oldest palace in Zanzibar. It was built between 1828 and 1834 for the Sultan. It is in the northern region of Maruhubi. Princess Salme, the daughter of the sultan, said she wrote a book about her life on Zanzibar. The book describes Mtoni palace as having over 1000 people attached to the sultan's court and a large courtyard where gazelles, ostriches, flamingos, and peacocks, among others, roamed. The sultan lived with his wife, an Omani princess named Azze, on the other side of the quarter. The palace was deserted and left in ruins in 1885; now, just the main walls and portions of the roof remain.
