
The expedition will commence as soon as you finish breakfast. You will be escorted to Kigoma Port and Railway Station, where you will view and learn about these two locations’ historical significance. If it is available, you will be able to tour and board the Mv. Liemba, a German ship that is “the oldest ship on Lake Tanganyika and probably the oldest ship in the world.” The British ship Mv. Mwongozo, which is still accessible, and the Central Railway terminating at Kigoma station will transport you back to the 1910s. The Regional Commissioner House, Bomas House, and St. Joseph Cathedral Roman Catholic Church, all built between the 1880s and 1900s, will also be accessible. It is essential to visit the Kigoma Railway Station, the terminus of the historic Central Line railway that connects Tanzania to Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
You will also be able to visit the Kigoma market, where you can buy souvenirs, fresh food, and handicrafts made in the area. If time permits, you will visit local cultural groups to learn about the history and customs of the indigenous tribes. You will be served a traditional Swahili lunch at one of Kigoma’s renowned restaurants.
After you’ve seen these places, we’ll take you to the Dr. Livingstone Memorial Centre, which became famous when Henry Morton Stanley said “I presume” to Dr. Livingstone. Henry Stanley Morton finally met Dr. Livingstone here after years of silence. After spending some time at the memorial, where you’ll learn about Dr. Livingstone’s history and the significance of his role in the abolition of the slave trade, you’ll be led to Ujiji, the historic market, and slave trafficking route, where the repercussions are still felt today.
After a long day, this four- to six-hour journey will conclude with a drive back to the hotel.
