Diving In Lake Tangayika Kigoma

Price : $100

The water temperature at Lake Tanganyika is between 75 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (24 and 25 degrees Celsius). The lake’s clean water (visibility is roughly 49 feet) and diverse fish species make it suitable for scuba diving. Minimal diving is also known as “double diving,” and you may take as much as you want from it. There are alternatives for both beginners and specialists. Join us on our private boat to discover the environment of Lake Tanganyika with our very own professional guide and diver, Mr George Kazumbe, or his crew. The double dive might take at least three hours, including rest time between dives. Our knowledgeable crew of local guides is well-versed in the lake’s ecosystem and fish varieties.
When you go scuba diving in the deep and shallow lagoons, you might see hundreds of rainbow cichlid fish from more than 250 different species. These fish can be as small as your fingernail or as big as your arm. It is assumed that when one multi-coloured population became separated from another by shifting sandbanks, each group acquired distinct colours as females picked the most beautiful partners. Because of their stunning patterns, some of which are almost fluorescent in their brightness, they are currently popular aquarium fish. Their mouths did double duty, having two jaws and teeth to help them graze and fight.
Some fish have come up with amazing ways to protect their young from predators, like carrying them in their mouths. Others became effective parasites by copying the markings of their hosts so they could get close enough to graze on their scales with their sharp teeth without killing the host. Lake fish accounts for 40% of the protein intake of a million people in neighbouring nations and is a key export to southern Africa. There are enormous supplies of sardines in the deeper seas, which are frequently fished by traditional fleets of lantern-lit dugout canoes and some sailing dhows, which provide a lovely nocturnal scene as their lighted fabric sails are reflected in the crystalline water. This graphic represents a fantasy visit to Lake Tanganyika.

Tour Plan

01
Day 01 : Double Dives at Lake Tanganyika

We suggest that you start your day with a tasty breakfast at any restaurant in Kigoma or at your hotel. Meet your diving instructor at the Aqua Lodge boat harbour after breakfast. The best diving spot in the lake will be reached by boat. During the ride, you will be able to appreciate the natural splendour of the area and the lake’s pristine waters.

As soon as you arrive at the diving location, you will don your diving gear and descend to the depths of the lake. Lake Tanganyika is home to more than 400 fish species, 250 of which are endemic cichlids, making it one of the best freshwater diving destinations. You will be amazed by how colourful the fish are and how many different places there are to see underwater. You will have time to relax on the boat and enjoy a light lunch following the first dive.

You will have the opportunity to dive again and explore more of the lake’s splendour after a brief break. Upon completion of scuba diving, you will return to the Aqua Lodge Harbour, where you will be able to relax and take in the stunning lake sunset or make a direct return to your hotel.
