7 Days Mahale Mountains National Park Luxury Trip

Overview

The spectacular Mahale Mountains National Park is located in far western Tanzania, south of Kigoma Town. It is bordered by Lake Tanganyika, the world’s longest, second-deepest, and least polluted freshwater lake, and is home to an estimated 1000 fish species as well as the best chimp trekking in Africa. Like its northern neighbor Gombe, the park is home to some of Africa’s last wild chimps, which have been accustomed to human visits since the 1960s thanks to a Japanese research initiative. It is one of the most unique safari destinations on the continent. The lakeshore has a beautiful powder-like white sand beach with majestic mountains covered in tropical flora as a backdrop. The woodland comes alive with sound as large blue butterflies fly over the streams.
Mahale Mountains National Park, established initially to protect the hundreds of chimps in the area, is now famous for its spectacular sunsets over Lake Tanganyika, one of the world’s oldest and deepest lakes, making it a must-see for anyone considering a Tanzania safari. The park is alive with life; rivers and waterfalls abound, and the lake’s shoreline is lined with the most pristine white-sand beaches you’ve ever seen. Mount “Nkungwe” (8,069 feet) is the park’s highest trekking peak and is sacred to the Tongwe people.
The park has many different kinds of ecosystems, such as grasslands, rainforests, alpine bamboo, and woods. About 50 different kinds of animals live there, with monkeys and apes being the most common.
Therefore, six nights, seven days, and five or six treks would be the ideal plan for your trip. I thus suggest spending the whole three nights at Mango Tree Rest House. This means that to embark on an evening trek or an evening sport fishing excursion on your arrival day, you must leave Kigoma very early in the morning and get to the park at about lunchtime (1200–1400).
The second day will start with a morning walk and conclude with either an evening trek or a sport fishing expedition. On the last day, you’ll hike early in the morning, then take a boat ride to Lagosa, where you’ll catch a ride to Kigoma in the late afternoon.
