You’ll be picked up from the airport or your hotel in the morning and driven to Lagosa village, from where you’ll take a boat to the Mahale Mountain National Park visitor center (Kasiha post). The boat ride to Mahale will follow a picnic lunch in the hamlet of Lagosa. It takes around an hour and a half by boat to reach Kasiha from Lagosa village, but just half an hour from the park’s main office. You may get to Mahale in time to see the sunset, check into a hotel, and swim across Lake Tanganyika. You will have dinner and spend the night in the Tanapa Mango Tree Banda.
It is recommended to begin chimpanzee tracking in the forest at about 8:00 a.m., after breakfast. The trail to the chimpanzees’ habitat is easy to follow and won’t put too much effort into your body, although it will help if you’re in decent shape. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these endangered primates up close. Tanapa Mango Tree Banda is where you’ll eat and sleep for the night.
You will go Chimp tracking immediately after breakfast. Visitor favorites in Mahale include mountain climbing and monitoring habituated wild chimpanzees. Visitors may get up close and personal with a wide variety of birds and animals, including a population of habituated chimps, on walking safaris through the stunning lowland forest. Evenings are perfect for beach activities including swimming, kayaking, and lounging. Stay at Tanapa Mango Tree Banda for dinner and a bed for the night.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll hit the last trail and make your way deep into the jungle in search of chimpanzee communities. You have to leave the park before lunchtime or you’ll be late to arrive in Kigoma. Take a boat to Lagosa, where you’ll meet our driver and be driven back to Kigoma town.
