If you just have one day in Mpanda but want to explore the breathtaking Katavi National Park, this full-day trip is for you. This tour usually begins in the early morning with a healthy breakfast and a packed lunch before boarding a car and travelling to Katavi. The highlight of this excursion will be a visit to Ikuu Bridge, where you may view the most hippopotamuses you’ve ever seen in one spot.
Katavi National Park is home to nothing but nature. Few people are aware of this traditional park, which is best visited during the dry season and is home to a diverse range of wildlife. Four of the world’s Big Five animals may be found in this park. Leopard sightings are less common than lion, buffalo, and elephant sightings. The rhino is the only one of the “big 5” that isn’t sighted.
The lush Katavi floodplains are home to several species. Buffalo herds are in the thousands here. Lions and elephants are numerous and may be seen almost everywhere. Katavi is one of Tanzania’s most popular parks, and it’s famous for a stunning wildlife show: at the end of the dry season, hundreds of hippos congregate in the Katuma River’s diminishing sources of water. Large fights and bull evictions are common. Along with the hippos, there are sometimes huge crocodiles scattered throughout the area, sometimes even atop the hippos. This incredible sight comes with an equally incredible scent, so be pr epared.
Explore the vast savannahs of East Africa on a safari customized to your preferences, whether it's encountering the Big Five in Tanzania's famous wildlife parks, or visiting the Rhino sanctuaries of Kenya.
